Why Did the Institute of Christ the King (ICRSP) Not Take Over the Church Notre-Dame-du-Lys?
The proposal would have abolished both, the Novus Ordo and the Latin Mass that are celebrated in the Church. The Sunday Latin Mass drew around 150–250 faithful, while the Wednesday Latin Mass was dedicated to young people.
Following strong opposition from parishioners and supporters of the chapel, the plan was revised.
Instead, a religious community will assume responsibility for the chapel and its youth patronage beginning in September. This change has since been confirmed on the chapel's official website, although the announcement refers only to "a Community" composed of a priest and a seminarian, without identifying the institute.
According to PaixLiturgique.org, Paris Archdiocese considered entrusting the chapel to the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest (ICRSP).
The proposal reportedly progressed significantly but was ultimately abandoned because of opposition within the entourage of Archbishop Laurent Ulrich.
The chapel is now expected to be entrusted to the Missionaries of Divine Mercy, a diocesan-right community founded in the Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon.
They celebrate both the Novus Ordo and the Traditional Latin Mass. The Missionaries of Divine Mercy were affected by the Vatican's suspension of ordinations in the Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, which delayed the ordination of their candidates for several years.
